		NATIONAL HERITAGE OPEN DAY 12 SEPTEMBER 2010

	As part of the national heritage open day events in England, there were a series of activities in the limeworks area. There were guided walks, a talk on lime ‘the miracle material’ and the demonstration kiln was fired up. CLICK on any photo below to see larger versions.

19 two pieces of burned limestone with water added - slaking

20 the burned lime - quicklime - reacts with water

21 more reaction

22 the second piece starts reacting

23 reaction over - slaked lime formed
