Replica Brake Drum for ‘English’ incline The brake drum is also known as a gin wheel
In early April 2008, the replica brake drum for the English incline was installed. The drum weighs over two tons so needs a bit of careful handling. The housing for the drum had previously been made ready. The drum arrived at the Underhill car park on Friday 4th April. The attempt to move the drum to its housing was abandoned on the Friday because of difficulties in getting the big crane from the car park to the housing. The drum was left on the car park and a second attempt, on Wednesday 9th April 2008, was successful.
