LISTEN TO A LIME WORKER

Cecil Corfield worked as a young man at Llanymynech limeworks until its closure in 1914.
In 1979, Cecil was interviewed regarding his memories of the works and general life in the village.
The interview was carried out and recorded by Kerry Knapper who was the head teacher of Llanymynech primary school.
We have a debt of gratitude to pay to Kerry whose foresight has given us all a unique glimpse into the industrial and social scene at the start of the 20th century.

The first recordings were made in Cecil’s home. The first section below is Cecil’s recollection from memory of the Hoffman Kiln. Judge for yourself the accuracy of his recollections.
