Comparing Maps of Llanymynech – 1887 and 1901

Study the two maps to see how Llanymynech changed between 1887 and 1901.

Use the download for the following:

To help you recognise places, first colour in the canal with a blue pencil crayon on both maps. Next, colour the main roads using an orange crayon and colour woodland in green. Now colour St. Agatha’s church in red.

Looking at the map of 1901, use a highlighter to indicate places that had changed since 1887 and label the five most important changes with numbers 1 – 5.

Look particularly for:

  • New buildings
  • Changes to the railways or tramways
  • Changes to natural features such as woods or streams

Ignore changes to labels or numbers as these may not show that anything was different on the ground.

Choose the five most significant changes you can find and try to explain what these were:
